Frequently Asked Questions
1. Where are you located?
A: We are located in Los Angeles, California.
2. What’s the process like?
A: You send in your music, and if we think it has potential, we will contact you back.
3. “I have a couple tracks that I have produced and written top line for. Are you only interested in promoting your beats or would you promote my complete songs?
A: We are open to all material, not just music located on our site.
4. What happens after you like a record I sent you?
A: We will contact you to discuss the record and then we will shop the record to major labels across the globe.
5. Do you own exclusive rights once I email you material?
A: Through this entire process, you own your material. At no point does WeShopSongs own any of your material or holds exclusive rights. In fact, feel free to shop your material to as many people and companies as you would like to.
6. The material I am submitting is also on iTunes. Can I still submit it to you?
A: No. Once you have started and/or in the process of selling your record, A&Rs at major labels will not feel comfortable recording material that is already online for the public. We are looking for fresh material that has not been showcased anywhere.
7. What kind of tracks are you looking for at the moment?
A: We are looking for all sorts of tracks, from acoustics to beats. The type of music we look for depends on the type of artist that needs tracks. We look for Pop to Hip-Hop and everything in between. For more information, please visit our home page for criteria on song placement.
8. Who will pick up the phone number on your website?
A: WeShopSongs support staff.
9. To what level does a demo sent to you need to be?
A: Only submit music for projects if it meets EXACTLY the style we are looking for. If you are not sure if the song will work and think that you’d rather send it anyway, please do not do so unless you are sure it fits. It will just be a waste of time for us. Please note that there are thousands of artists on this email list and we receive so many mp3s for music requests. Also, please be respectful and only send appropriate songs as we have a limited time to listen to songs.
10. What if I can only write the lyrics to your instrumentals?
A: That’s only half of it. You need to be able to show the people everything. As a songwriter, it’s your job to find the right vocalist for it, transferring your words on a piece of paper to an actual recording. In the current music industry, there is so much competition and it challenges us to do more and improve our skills. Push yourself.
11. Why haven’t you responded to my numerous requests for confirmation that you have received my track that I submitted to you? I know that I submitted a great track.
A: We receive lots of emails on a daily basis, so it’s very hard to contact everyone that emails our team. I can assure you, you will be contacted if your music is chosen.
12. If my beat/song is not selected, what does it mean? Will you provide feedback?
A: If your beat/song is not selected, it means that we did not believe that it fits what we and the artists’/record labels were looking for. Due to the amount of people that submit, we are unable to provide feedback to each person.
13. Can I sing over a commercial instrumental (such as instrumentals for “Firework” or “I Need a Doctor”) but write an original vocal line?
A: No. The instrumental is owned by a record company and you will run into the problem of infringement of an original song. It is best to pick instrumentals from our tracks or create your own.
14. Do you think it’s unfair that a major artist can demand a writing split, when, in actuality, they haven’t written on a track?
A: Mynority: “When you start out in the music industry, you will think it’s unfair. Now in the game and having it done to me so many times, I think it is fair. At the end of the day, this is the music industry and it is a business, and because the artist is singing “your song” they are giving a voice to a page. So they are only contributing. That’s my honest opinion.”
15. Are you still looking for vocalists and songwriters to feature on your beats and instrumentals?
A: Yes, we are looking for vocalists and songwriters everyday, all day. Why? There are so many talented people that have yet to be discovered, and I make it my job every single day to find these people, and help build a super team, by having the best songwriters, producers, engineers, musicians and vocalists.
16. If I write lyrics and melodies to your instrumental tracks and you don’t use the song, am I allowed to use the completed song, including your instrumental, and make an album or music video with it?
A: No, our instrumentals are only used for our song submissions to record companies (Warner, Atlantic, Interscope, EMI, Waner Brothers, etc.)
17. Do you accept demo packages from artists? If so, where should I send it to?
A: As of right now, we are interested in shopping songs, but when that changes, we will upload an address on the website, with all the details.
18. What about security for my track?
A: Security is extremely important to us at WeShopSongs. We understand the caution people take when submitting music to someone they do not know. We are most definitely not trying to steal music, but we are instead trying to build working relationships with other artists to submit to lawyers and A&Rs that we communicate with weekly. For your own security, please save all correspondence we share and know that we will not move forward with any business endeavors without your consent first.
